Information for Presenters: 2009

Poster Specifications

Posters will be displayed vertically and should be 30"x 40"*. Posters may be printed as one large display (MRSEC Poster Template (.ppt)) or assembled from individual slides.

All posters should have a title banner including:
  • Title
  • Authors' names to include summer participant name underlined, graduate student or post doc mentor, faculty advisor
  • Home institution
  • Sponsoring Program (e.g. MRSEC, Lando, etc)

If you would like to print your poster as one large display, the Computer Lab in B60 Coffman has large scale printers (HP Designjet 5000, 5500) available ($4.50 per sqft). Refer to http://oit.umn.edu/computerlabs/using/printing/coffmanlfp/index.html. You may also consult with the Computer Lab Help Desk in B60 Coffman prior to beginning the design of the poster to answer any questions you may have on creating your file for printing on the large printer.

Poster Set-Up Details

Please arrive at Memorial Hall, McNamara Center at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 6 to set up your poster. Set-up should be completed by 4:00 p.m. All presenters are assigned a poster number (to be announced), which will be displayed on the tack board at the event. Affix your poster to the tack board by your assigned number. Tacks will be provided.

* If you intend to use your poster at multiple poster sessions with different size requirements please enter the dimensions of your poster in the Additional Information section of the registration form. No poster may exceed 46" in either dimension.

Poster Judging

Posters will be judged in the following categories:

  • Chemistry
  • Materials
  • Graduate Student

You can select the category most appropriate for your poster on the registration form. Prizes will be awarded to the top three posters in each category based on the following criteria:

  • Appearance of the poster display
  • Poster organization and preparation
  • Originality and Merit
  • Knowledge and Presentation
